Girls Dress

What length skirts and shirts should a woman wear in Cairo, Egypt?

Are knee-length skirts ok, or do they have to go to the floor? For t-shirts, is it ok if they just cover the shoulders, or should the sleeves go all the way down to the elbows at least? What about dress codes for mosques? Thank you! Can you wear pants in a mosque?

  1. Below the knee length is ok. It does not have to go all the way to the floor. It is ok to wear short sleeve t-shirts. Best to have shoulders covered, but sleeves don't have to go below elbow. That is for Cairo and Alex. In Sharm and Hurghada you can wear whatever you want. For the mosque it is opposite. Long skirt to floor. Nothing showing on arm. EDIT: Yes, you can wear pants in the mosque. As a tourist and visitor to the mosque, you will have to pass by a person before entering who will evaluate if your clothing is appropriate and give you instructions on what to do with your shoes. If your clothing is not appropriate, you will be given a green robe to cover yourself with while inside. You return the robe when you leave.
  2. wear what you want unless you don't care about men stairs and comments. if you care so wear long skirt mosques are not allowed for non muslims to enter unless it is a historical so here you need to cover all of your body. you can not
  3. knee length is ok, but not shorter please, sleeveless is ok either,, try to avoid low cut tops and backless tops, some egyptian girls (but not the majority) wears like this so don't worry for mosques(the historical ones), you need to be covered up even your hair,, plus taking off your shoes of course,, enjoy! ---------------------- EDIT, pants are ok if they are baggy,, with long t shirt
  4. For skirts, knee length or longer is fine. For t-shirts, it is better to wear short sleeved shirts. Sleeveless will draw attention and unwanted remarks. Any shirt/blouse shouldn't be transparent, shouldn't show cleavage, or show tommy. For mosques, pants are fine. They shouldn't be tight, though. A handy scarf that is loosely wrapped on the head will be appreciated.
  5. prettier the leg.shroter the skirt..please we don't need any more hairy or fat legs...shallow i know!!
  6. a skirt or shorts should be knee length . t- shirts are ok if they cover the shoulders . to go into a mosque , you can wear pants and a blouse with sleeves . a nice shawl / scarf that covers the head and arms would be ok on a t-shirt or blouse with half sleeves . the whole idea is to be modestly dressed in Cairo , and to throw a light scarf /shawl on the head and arms in a mosque . in the mosque , you have to take off your footwear or put on something on your shoes so as not to tread on the carpets of the mosque with shoes that carry the dirt from the streets . have a nice stay.
  7. Any thing that is below ur elbows and knees is okay. Good luck!
  8. You can wear most kinds of dress in Egypt; however the advices you read here are the preferred way to dress. I will not repeat what my friends here told you already, I will add that it's better to be modest. In churches and mosques, it's better to cover all the body except face and hands. There are solutions for the dress they may give you there if you are not ready, but I don't really recommend it. You have very good advices here if you use it, you'll be ready with your dress better than using others that I don't trust who used it or when it was cleaned. You'll take off the shoes to enter the mosques anyway or they provide you kind of cover to wear over the shoes. During visits to the other monuments or museums, it's more free for T-shirts even if it doesn't cover shoulders. On beaches you can wear what you want as long as you wear something.
