What are skirts with sewn down paneling?

I am cello shaped (I think)- big chest, butt, and thighs with little waist and calves. I have read that I should chose skirts with sewn down paneling but really have no idea what that is. Help?? If anyone has other clothing suggestions that would be a great deal of help! Thanks!

  1. Perhaps they are referring to a gore skirt. This skirt takes its shape from several vertical panels sewn together. On some casual versions, the stitching may be in a contrasting color, creating vertical lines. Depending on the difference between the top and bottom length of each panel and the curve of the lower hem, this type of skirt can have a very swingy, fun and flirty sort of shape and would be flattering for a number of body types.
  2. I think you're talking about a pleated skirt where the pleats are sewn down from the waist to the lower hip area and then they are free below that. These are called stitched down pleated skirts. Also check out gored skirts. They have pie shaped panels that narrow as they reach the waist and flare out much more at the hem. They would be flattering on anyone with slim hips just as the stitched down pleated skirts would. I don't think they would look so good on someone with larger hips or thighs. You should choose skirts that are more generous in the hip area to look your best and show off your hourglass figure. Good luck!! : P
